These convertible dags were designed to keep working hands warm while still allowing them to be able to do the kind of fiddly tasks that often need to be done around a croft. Dags is a Shetland dialect word, originally a taboo word, for mittens. Taboo words were words used by fishermen and sailors to refer to items that belonged to the land life. It was considered bad luck to refer to them by their ordinary words, so a whole vocabulary arose that was specifically used when at sea. This phenomenon is common to many seafaring cultures in the world.
It is knitted in aran yarn. Fits an average adult male hand.
Kit includes:
150g Bilberry
1x Convertible Crofter's Dags pattern print-out
